Danish national lottery provider Danske Spil A/S named Lars Krarup, the former mayor of the Herning Municipality, the new chairman. Krarup, a member of Venstre, Denmark’s liberal party, has held the mayoral post for nearly two decades. He will join Danske Spil on June 3, 2025.

Throughout his long career, Lars Krarup has served in several leadership positions. He was the mayor of Herning between 2005 and 2021. Krarup also chaired Realdania, a private association in Denmark that funds urban development projects. The latest milestone in his career, Krarup’s appointment as the chairman of Danske Spil was at the behest of the Danish Ministry of Finance.
Before his latest appointment, Krarup was the chairman of Team Danmark, a government-backed foundation for the development of elite athletes. He also chaired Sport Event Denmark, a sports management company that organises major sporting events in Denmark.
Krarup has previously served in other significant roles, such as on the board of directors for KommuneKredit, a government funding agency that finances municipalities and regions at low interest rates. And KL, a local government association that represents the interests of local authorities and provides information and consultancy services.

Commenting on his recent appointment, Krarup said he understands how revenue from Danske Spil can help with the betterment of the community. Team Danmark, where he served as chairman for half a decade, is one such organisation funded by gambling revenue. He explained:
In my experience of serving as mayor and in sports, I have seen firsthand how revenue from Danske Spil supports local and regional communities. It is my privilege to serve in this capacity to continue improving the financial foundation of Danish communities and thousands of good causes.

Danske Spil generated €261 million in net profits after tax, bringing its total contribution for societal causes to €440 million in a single calendar year.
Danske Spil has confirmed that Charlotte Bach, who has been serving as its deputy chair since 2022, will continue in her role. Bach has also chaired the Danish Gymnastics and Sports Associations (DGI) since 2019.
