Key Takeaways From Maverick Gaming’s Washington Closure Plans

  • Maverick plans to close eight Washington casino properties on November 30.

  • Around 850 employees could be affected across the eight locations.

  • The closures remain subject to change if properties transfer to new owners or operators.

  • The latest notices add to earlier Washington closures and layoffs Maverick announced during 2026.

  • The plans come as the company continues restructuring under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Ownership Changes Could Keep Some Properties Open

The November closures should not be treated as outcomes for every property yet. Maverick’s WARN notices acknowledge that the bankruptcy process could result in changes of ownership or operating control.

Maverick Washington Human Resources Director Christine Wisniewski said:

If the site is transitioned to a new owner/operator, the above-referenced closure may not occur.

That distinction is already relevant at individual properties. A WARN filing can reflect the company’s current employment plans while a sale or operating transfer remains possible during the restructuring process.

The eight new notices follow previously announced closures at Great American Casino and Riverside Casino in Tukwila, scheduled for November 1, which together affected another 238 positions.

Maverick Continues to Reduce Its Washington Footprint

Maverick entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2025 after expanding its portfolio across Washington, Nevada and Colorado. The latest filings indicate that the restructuring is continuing to reshape its Washington operations rather than representing a single isolated closure.

The eight properties covered by the latest notices are Great American Casino in Everett, Chip’s Casino, Macau Casino and Palace Casino in Lakewood, All Star Casino in Silverdale, Casino Caribbean in Yakima, Crazy Moose Casino in Pasco and Coyote Bob’s Casino in Kennewick.

The employment impact also places Maverick within a wider period of restructuring across the gambling sector. In Europe, Bet365 announced plans to cut around 340 roles as it reviewed its operating structure and cost base.

Other operators have focused more directly on their land-based estates. Betfred’s plan to close 132 betting shops put more than 600 UK retail jobs at risk, showing how operators are reassessing physical gambling networks as they respond to changing costs and market conditions.

Employment pressure has also extended beyond retail venues. Entain recently outlined further workforce reductions affecting around 400 customer care roles as part of a wider operating review.

What Comes Next for the Eight Washington Properties

The immediate issue for employees and local markets is whether the planned November 30 closures proceed as filed or whether buyers emerge through Maverick’s bankruptcy process.

Washington’s WARN framework requires advance notice for qualifying closures and mass layoffs, giving workers and communities time to prepare for potential employment losses. The state database also publishes downloadable notices showing effective dates and the number of affected workers.

For Maverick, the next stage will depend on asset sales, ownership transfers and the wider Chapter 11 process. Until those outcomes are settled, the eight properties should be viewed as planned closures rather than confirmed permanent shutdowns.
