Pennsylvania’s taxable sports betting revenue rose 50.45% year on year to $44.74 million in September 2026, despite a decline in total wagers. Figures released by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) show that handle fell 6.09% to $798.74 million.

The divergence was the standout feature of a month in which statewide gaming revenue increased 4.07% to $555.04 million. The PGCB’s September report also showed online casino growth supporting the overall result, while land-based table games recorded a substantial decline.

Pennsylvania’s September 2026 betting figures: $44.74M taxable revenue and a 6.09% handle decline.

Markets & Regions

Key Takeaways From Pennsylvania’s September Revenue Split

  • Sports betting generated more taxable revenue from a smaller wagering base.

  • iGaming revenue increased 6.82%, with online slots driving growth.

  • Statewide revenue rose despite weaker results across several gaming categories.

  • Regulated gaming and fantasy contests generated $242.63 million in tax revenue during September.

Taxable Revenue Rises as Handle Contracts

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board said:

The taxable revenue figure for September 2026 was $44,737,408, or 50.45% higher when compared to September 2025, when taxable revenue was $29,735,588.

Sports wagering handle declined from $850.55 million a year earlier. Operators therefore generated approximately $15 million more in taxable revenue from $51.81 million less in wagers.

Based on the reported figures, taxable sports betting revenue represented about 5.60% of handle, up from 3.50% in September 2025. That is an increase of around 2.10 percentage points.

This ratio measures taxable revenue against wagers. It should not be presented as operators’ gross hold or profit margin, which require different information. The headline totals do not establish whether sporting outcomes, promotional deductions or changes in betting patterns explain the divergence. They demonstrate that wagering volume alone does not capture revenue performance.

Regional results also vary. New York’s August sports betting slowdown saw both handle and revenue decline, underscoring the need to assess each state and reporting period separately.

Online Slots Support iGaming Expansion

Pennsylvania’s online casino segment generated $249.31 million, compared with $233.38 million in September 2025. Online slots contributed $197.37 million, increasing 8.99% and accounting for most of the segment’s revenue. Internet table games generated $49.66 million, down 0.63%, while online poker revenue fell 1.76% to $2.27 million.

These results show that growth was concentrated in online casino products rather than spread evenly across the category. The increase in slots revenue offset the smaller declines in internet tables and poker.

The expansion follows double-digit US iGaming growth in the second quarter, when national online casino revenue increased 16.5%. Pennsylvania’s September figures cover a different period and should be assessed independently.

Retail Table Games Weigh on Statewide Results

Retail slot revenue increased 2.44% to $196.16 million, but land-based table games fell 18.07% to $60.16 million. Video gaming terminal revenue declined 4.90% to $3.18 million, while fantasy contests dropped 23.75% to $1.49 million.

The results also provide fiscal context for debates over gambling taxation, including Pennsylvania’s proposed skill games tax framework, outlined in September.

Total tax revenue across regulated gaming and fantasy contests reached $242.63 million. The PGCB notes that its tax figures reflect amounts generated before the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue makes any adjustments.
