The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has officially confirmed that Safer Gambling Week 2026 will take place from November 16 to November 22. The eighth iteration of the annual campaign arrives on the heels of a record-breaking 2025, which saw over 60 million social media impressions and a significant surge in the use of player protection tools across the United Kingdom.

The campaign remains the centrepiece of the industry’s commitment to harm reduction, uniting land-based casinos, high-street betting shops, and online operators under a single cross-sector initiative. By promoting tools such as deposit limits, time-outs, and self-exclusion, the 2026 campaign aims to further normalise the conversation around healthy wagering habits.

Building on a Record-Breaking Legacy in Britain

The 2025 campaign set a high benchmark, with nearly half a million social media engagements and a 10% increase in the uptake of safer gambling tools during the activation week.

  • Digital Dominance: Social media impressions rose from 30 million in 2023 to 60 million in 2025, a trend the BGC expects to continue in 2026.
  • Direct Intervention: During previous campaigns, the number of players setting deposit limits increased by nearly 20%, proving that concentrated awareness leads to direct consumer action.
  • Collaborative Strength: The initiative is supported by BGC members alongside key stakeholders like GAMSTOP and YGAM, ensuring a consistent message across all gaming verticals.

The 2026 Context: A Market in Transition

Safer Gambling Week 2026 occurs during a period of significant structural change for the UK industry. The BGC has been vocal about the need for balanced regulation that protects the vulnerable without pushing players toward the “black market”.

As highlighted during the BGC 2026 AGM regarding illegal gambling risks, the council maintains that visible, regulated safer gambling initiatives are the best defence against the harms associated with unlicensed offshore sites. Furthermore, this year’s campaign is expected to feature a stronger internal focus on the BGC Industry DEI Principles, emphasising that a diverse and inclusive workforce is essential for better identifying and supporting at-risk player demographics.

Navigating the Statutory Levy Shift

A major theme for the 2026 campaign will be the changing landscape of Research, Education, and Treatment (RET) funding. With the impending closure of GambleAware and the transition to a statutory levy, Safer Gambling Week 2026 will serve as a vital proof-of-concept for how the industry continues to lead voluntary awareness efforts even as mandatory funding models take hold.

Grainne Hurst, Chief Executive of the Betting and Gaming Council, stated:

Safer Gambling Week has gone from strength to strength, with last year’s record-breaking campaign showing just how powerful a united, cross-sector effort can be. The strong backing from Parliamentarians across all parties reflects the importance of this campaign and the shared ambition to ensure customers are protected and informed. By working alongside Bacta and the Bingo Association, we will continue to raise awareness of the tools that help customers stay in control and promote safer play right across the sector.

2026 Campaign Objectives: Transparency and Reach

For 2026, the BGC has signalled several key priorities for the November activation:

  1. Transparency in Data: Sharing more granular data on how many “nudge” interventions successfully lead to a player taking a break.
  2. Omnichannel Integration: Ensuring that the “Take Time to Think” messaging is as prevalent in physical betting shops as it is on mobile apps.
  3. Youth Protection: Increasing the targeted outreach to younger adults (18-24) to ensure they are equipped with limit-setting tools from their very first interaction with a betting platform.

As the industry prepares for November 16, the focus remains on maintaining the momentum of the 2025 record year. With the UK government continuing to refine its white paper implementation, Safer Gambling Week 2026 represents a critical opportunity for the regulated sector to demonstrate that its proactive, collaborative approach to player protection remains the global gold standard.
