Slovak Gambling Regulator Wins GRA Award 2025 for Educational Project

Slovakia’s Gambling Regulatory Authority (ÚRHH), in a press release on Thursday, December 4, announced that it won an award at the coveted Global Regulatory Awards (GRA) 2025. The event took place at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London on November 19.

The ÚRHH received an award in the “Regulatory Initiative of the Year” category for its research project titled “Gambling Without Myths and Illusions”, focusing on prevention and responsible gambling among the young generation. The project was launched in November 2024 for educating high school students.

Speaking to the press, Libuša Baranová, the Director General of the Gambling Regulatory Authority, expressed his gratitude and admiration. He reiterated the ÚRHH’s commitment to protecting the younger generation from the dangers of gambling harm and changing the way Slovak communities view gambling.

Baranová said:

Receiving this award is an international recognition that our efforts have real social significance. Slovakia has shown that it can bring innovative solutions that protect young people, support their critical thinking and raise awareness of a responsible approach to gambling. This success is an honour for us, but also a commitment to continue initiatives that change the way society perceives gambling and its risks.

Slovakia Prioritises Protecting Young Generations from Gambling Harm

Slovakia’s Gambling without Myths and Illusions project aims to educate the younger generation about the dangers of gambling addiction. It provides comprehensive and unbiased information on how gambling works. It underscores the risks of gambling and the common marketing practices used by operators to attract young consumers.

The Global Regulatory Awards recognise individuals and entities that work toward improving the standards for responsible gambling globally. The ÚRHH’s initiative stood out for safeguarding the interests of future generations. Gambling regulations have been a major point of concern among European nations.

In neighbouring Austria, the government has announced plans to launch a regulated open market once current permits expire in 2027. Lawmakers have agreed to establish a new law for competitive licensing before the timeline. This international recognition will motivate the Slovakian authorities to continue improving the regulatory standards.
