The Curacao Gaming Authority (CGA) has granted a six-month extension to provisional licensees, allowing gaming operators to continue offering their services beyond December 24. This announcement comes amid the regulator’s ongoing implementation of the new authoritative framework.
Key Notes of the Story
- Under the provisions of the new rule, gambling licenses issued through the previous regime were to expire on June 24. However, the deadline has now been extended to December 24, 2025.
- The extension applies to Green Seal B2C and B2B license holders in Curacao. The CGA plans to deliver the formal intimation of the extension to existing license holders by June 27.
- CGA sources say this extension will allow operators to comply with the new regulations. Eligible candidates will receive a full licence at the end of the provisional period.
Extended Deadline to Enable Licensees to Comply with New Regulations
The update, released on June 23, 2025, offers an automatic six-month extension on the provisional license issued under the new National Ordinance for Games of Chance (LOK). The extension will allow operators to navigate the evolving challenges of Curacao’s gambling regulatory ecosystem.
Provisional licences granted on December 24, 2024, under the NOK were slated to expire on June 24, 2025. However, unless the board directly notifies an operator regarding the non-extension, the extended deadline applies to existing license holders. The CGA stated that it had already notified operators whose provisional licenses would not be extended.
All other iGaming operators can expect to receive an automated notification regarding the extension by June 27, 2025. This blanket extension applies to both Green Seal B2C and B2B operators and underscores the watchdog’s commitment to building a more robust, secure, and sustainable gambling environment for players and operators.
Under the provisions of the new law, suppliers and operators within the iGaming industry must adhere to stricter regulatory frameworks. Operators must also provide a dispute resolution portal to help resolve player grievances and prevent any further escalation. At the end of the extension, operators that comply with the terms will receive a full licence.
According to the CGA’s statement, which was released on Tuesday:
Operators licensed on or after December 25, 2024, should be compliant or display significant progress according to the issued checklist, including additional requirements as per the LOK during the first six months from the date of issuance of the provisional license.
Curacao Gaming Authority Receives Closer Attention
The updated regulation comes in the wake of grave corruption charges, which the CGA refuted. The allegations, including fraud and money laundering, were made by Luigi Faneyte, a local politician and member of the opposition Real Alternative Party.
The LOK was conceived in September 2023 during the introduction of the CGA’s new licensing window. However, an influx of new licence applications during the summer of 2024 set back the board’s plans as many operators failed to submit the necessary documents during the first stage of the licensing window.
