Greek Online Gambling Revenue Jumps 18.7% to €647.2m in H1 2026
Online Gambling Accounts for 88% of Market Growth
Online gambling generated €647.2 million between January and June 2026, up from €545.1 million in the same period in 2025. The €102.1 million increase accounted for approximately 88% of the market’s overall €116 million expansion. Consequently, online gambling’s share of total GGR rose from 37.8% to 41.5%.
The figures build on Greece’s 2025 gambling market performance, when total annual GGR reached €3.07 billion and online operations generated €1.19 billion.
The latest results suggest that digital channels are strengthening their position within Greece’s regulated gambling market. For licensed operators and B2B suppliers, the continued expansion highlights opportunities in online casino technology, sportsbook platforms, payment processing and player engagement services.
Land-Based Gambling Records Modest Growth
While online gambling delivered most of the increase, traditional gambling operations continued generating the majority of total revenue. Land-based GGR reached €910.6 million, up 1.6% year-on-year. However, its share of the regulated market declined from 62.2% to 58.5%, reflecting the faster expansion of online platforms rather than an absolute contraction in retail gambling revenue.
Meanwhile, government revenue from gambling rose 14.4% to €627.3 million, up from €548.3 million in H1 2025. The increase shows the regulated gambling sector’s growing fiscal contribution.
Greek Regulator Strengthens Oversight as Digital Market Expands
The latest results coincide with increased regulatory scrutiny of illegal gambling activities. In its official announcement after the October briefing, the HGC outlined a strengthened supervisory framework and introduced artificial intelligence tools to identify potentially illegal gambling websites.
The regulator also confirmed it will continue efforts to improve player protection and address unauthorised gambling advertising.
HGC President Antonis Vartholomaios said:
The foremost condition for protecting players is a regulated market with clear rules for all providers.
These initiatives follow Greece’s recent deployment of AI-powered monitoring against illegal gambling, which aims to accelerate the identification of unauthorised websites.
What Comes Next for Greece's Gambling Market?
The HGC is strengthening its oversight capabilities as online gambling approaches half of the country’s regulated market. Operators must also navigate evolving compliance requirements, including preparations for European AML rules and domestic gambling tax changes.
For B2B businesses, Greece’s latest financial results indicate continued demand for digital gambling infrastructure, compliance technology and responsible gambling solutions.
The second half of 2026 will better indicate whether online growth maintains momentum as operators adapt to additional regulatory requirements.
